Dr Barbara Palmer (f)

BA MBBS (Newcastle 1983) DRCOG FP Cert DFFP, Dip Ther


Barbara has been with the practice since 1988. She offers a full range of general practice care to her patients. She has a special interest in diabetes, in child care including safeguarding and in ensuring high quality care is delivered to all individuals especially those less able to access effectively or at the end of life.
Barbara works for the Clinical Commissioning Group as clinical lead for diabetes. In this role she works with patients, voluntary organisations and NHS organisations to improve services to people with diabetes, to develop and improve integrated care across providers and to support training and development in primary care.

Dr Martin Heardman (m)

MB ChB (Glasgow 1987) MRCGP FP Cert


Martin has been a partner with the practice since 1993. He offers general practice care and has an interest in men's health, blood pressure treatment, prevention of heart disease, joint injection procedures and skin diseases.

Dr Louise Duncan (f)

MBBS (Newcastle 1991) DCH Cert DFFP MRCGP


Louise has been working as a GP since 1998. She provides general care and has a particular interest in children's, teenager's and woman's health. She fits contraceptive implants and intra-uterine devices (coils), as does Nurse Practitioner Emma.

Dr Lorna Longworth (f)

MBChB MRCP nMRCGP


Lorna joined the practice in 2011. She previously worked in Benwell. She currently works part time. She enjoys dealing with the wide variety of conditions seen in an average day. Her particular interests include care of elderly patients. She works with other team members to co-ordinate the Patient Participation Group.

Dr Karen Bisset (f)

MBBS (Newcastle) MRCGP


Karen has been a GP since 2001 and at West Road since 2010. She provides a full range of GP care and has an interest in medical education. Karen supervises the trainees in the practice.

Dr Sukey Ho (f)

MBChB (Edinburgh 2013) DRCOG MRCGP


Sukey joined the practice in 2018 having completed her GP training locally. She offers a full range of general practice care. She enjoys getting to know her patients in the context of their own lifestyle and culture, so that their care can be tailored towards their needs.

Dr Helen Jarvis (f)

MBBS (London 2003) MRCP MRCGP


Helen joined the practice in 2019, previously working in Northumberland and with several years of experience as a hospital physician. She provides general practice care and has a particular interest in liver disease. She works part time at the practice and is also working as a researcher at Newcastle University, undertaking a PhD project looking to optimise general practice care for patients at risk of liver disease.

Dr Aamir Ilyas (m)

MBBS 2013 MRCGP 2018


Dr Ilyas joined the practice in 2019. He completed his medical training at Newcastle University and also completed his GP training locally, working in many of the nearby hospitals in the area.
